A Master of Many Trades

A 'Jack/Jill of all trades' is someone who can do a variety of things albeit of passable quality... Is this who I am? Is this who you are?

​

From a very young age, I've been inclined to delve into art, music, and writing among others. Just like every other child, I've studied piano, played chess, and enrolled in swimming lessons. I've joined extra-curricular activity programs, such Glee Club, Dance Club, Art Club, and Star Scouts (younger Girl Scouts) among others. I've been an officer in my class and clubs. I've also joined and won numerous competitions inside and outside of my Alma Mater, Holy Family Academy. I was even a school representative for the Fiestang Culiat art competition in my town -- I won a Bronze medal plus prize money in third grade. An eight-year-old outdid her older competitors! Amazing! That time of my life was vital as it empowered me and improved my self-confidence.

 

In college, I even became a cheerleader. I got a 1.00 grade in my Physical Education class because of this, and I really enjoyed cheering for the University of Santo Tomas during the UAAP season. Viva El Tomasino! I was also a choir member of The Symphony, a well-known choir in my town, for several years. Moreover, I joined an acting workshop in 2018 (under a former ABS-CBN director) and auditioned for a few films and commercials.

Aside from these extra-curricular activities, I also did well in academics. I graduated from my pre-school, Our Lady of Fatima Countryside Kiddie School, with First Honors and Best in Math and Reading awards. The early years of my life were amazing because I grew up always wanting to learn more. I was such a go-getter, an achiever. Such thirst for knowledge enabled me to land in the Best Sections as well as end the school years with Honors.

Things became difficult for me, however, when my father left us for his mistress (looking back, this was actually a good thing as he was abusive and never good to us). We were left with no money and I had to work to support my studies as well as to help my family financially. I changed schools and had to work to pay for my bills, food, and school expenses since I lived alone. I worked as a freelance writer and had one-time stints as an exam proctor and a brand model. I also got hired as a call center agent, but I had to quit immediately due to schedule conflicts. I didn't even get to get my back pay (only trained for a day) because of my very hectic schedule. School tuition was particularly high, especially since my subjects included CISCO courses. Studying, working, and doing house chores (laundry, groceries, cooking) all at the same time were tedious. I never had enough time to review for anything. Fortunately, I still passed exams. 

 

My efforts were finally rewarded when I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering (ECE), the most difficult of all engineering programs, as they say. Afterwards, I also studied Juris Doctor, although I have not finished this one yet. I also went on to become a Computer and Design Teacher at an international school (the only International Baccalaureate school in my region). All of these made me happy and proud of myself.

 

Such achievements and associations might make you think: Wow, she sings, acts, dances, and paints? She's also an honor student and an international school teacher? She must be so great! She must be the best!

Well... Not exactly.

​

You see, I was just average. A Jill of all trades, if you must say. To this day, I still cannot claim to be the best in the Worlds of Art, Music, Film, and Dance. Even with my academic awards, I still was not the best of the best in my class (except perhaps in pre-school LOL). There are sooo many people who are waaaayy better than me.

​

But I have self-confidence and diligence. I possess the belief that I am just as good as the masters and I was willing to work hard to produce excellent results. I have this strong loyalty towards my own skills... and I am not afraid to start. Once I started, I keep going.

 

This is what enabled me to achieve success - at least, my own notion of it. Success, for me, is being happy and content of what I do, who I've become, and what I have. It is being able to be proud of overcoming my obstacles in life.

 

I am NOT a Jill of trades. I believe that I am a Master of Many Trades.

 

I am not limited to a single industry. I can thrive and flourish in a variety of fields, such as engineering, management, writing, marketing, teaching, and perhaps even in the legal profession if I finish law school and pass the bar exams. I believe that I can do anything I set my mind to -- our minds are incredibly powerful!

You don't have to be the most intelligent or most skilled to achieve success. You just have to be YOU! Because who else is better than you?? Nobody! You have to believe that you are the best -- for yourself. You have to believe that you are a Master, not a Jack/Jill of Trades. And in order for you to reach a milestone, you have to start with that first step.

 

As a life coach and an educator, I will teach you how to discover your strengths, how to make your weaknesses work for you, how to triumph in spite of adversity, how to have a winning mindset, and how to be successful in your own way among many other things. Nothing in life is perfect. The things I went through are a real nightmare! Nevertheless, I was able to move forward. I am happy and content.

I have a wonderful life! And I want to help you have a wonderful life too.
